The Challenge

Turning a question into an opportunity

The idea behind ReClean Initiative began with a simple observation during a hotel stay in Uganda in 2024. Our founder noticed that guest soap amenities were routinely replaced — even when some soap remained. Rather than viewing this only as waste, she began asking what if suitable hotel soap could be given a second chance.

The Opportunity. ReClean Initiative is exploring how responsible partnerships can connect these two challenges. Our approach is not about blaming hotels — they provide important services and operate according to standards, policies and guest expectations. We want to work alongside the hospitality sector to explore an additional pathway for suitable discarded soap.

A hotel experience sparks the idea. Our founder notices guest soap being routinely replaced and asks a simple question.

We do not claim recovered soap is automatically safe.

ReClean Initiative recognizes that recovered hygiene products intended for human use must meet appropriate safety and quality requirements. At our current stage, we do not claim that recovered hotel soap is automatically safe for redistribution. No recovered soap will be distributed for human use simply because it has been collected.

Linda Marion Fathum is the Founder of ReClean Initiative, an emerging Ugandan social-impact initiative created around a simple but powerful question: "What if suitable hotel soap could be given a second chance?"

Her journey toward ReClean began in 2024 after observing discarded hotel soap during a stay in Uganda. The first outreach in 2025 revealed the importance of technical expertise, trust, safety, partnerships and strong organizational systems. In 2026, Linda began rebuilding ReClean Initiative with a stronger foundation — governance, policies, partnership systems, programme frameworks, community engagement approaches, monitoring systems and funding strategy.
